My question is more discussion and point of view regarding a decision to repair or just sell my Ranger and move on. I own a 2007 FX4 Level II Ford Ranger. I purchased it in 2007 and at the time it had 24 miles on the odometer. It now has 225602 miles. I've had Ford do all the work and replaced with only ford parts. That has paid off well since the vehicle has never left me stranded. Unfortunately My transmission has now got to be replaced since reverse is not an option of the vehicle. Yes I could replace with a used rebuilt transmission but I am not going to change a lifetime of vehicle upkeep now.
So now I have to decide if its time to sell the truck to some youngster around here or repair it as it is and just bring it out on "autumn" Sunday afternoons. Not liking that last thought as much, I was wondering about putting it in to a refurb shop to just tear it down and update the Ranger. Any thoughts,

Why not see if a shop will rebuild the transmission you have? It never hurts to ask.

As far as getting rid of the truck, how much is it worth to you? Not just cost wise, but memories and familiarity.

Plus, depending on what the transmission repair bill would be, it's going to be cheaper than a vehicle payment. Unless you get a heck of a deal on a cash only vehicle purchase.

I recommend getting the transmission repaired or replaced and go on driving it. A good rebuild shouldn’t be any less reliable. You know the trucks history. Its your baby. Give it some love and keep driving as if nothing ever happened.

I'm gonna agree with the above.

Has it always been a Florida vehicle? How is it on rust issues?

Also... the truck will be worth considerably more money operating then trying to sell it with a bad transmission.
