End of an Era for my Ranger

seems like a ok truck but no where near 6,500

I agree, pretty high for the miles around here. The truck supply is probably a tad different in Alaska though, everything else is supposed to be stupid expensive up there.

Fordisthebest30 is getting a chevy? What has the world come to, just wait for a nice Ford to come by you wont be dissapointed i will admit chevys are nice but they arent Fords and i think you will regret your decision in the long run, just be patient and get a ford :D

I am a ford guy obviously. However I have owned both. I picked my ford ranger because ANY Chev I have ever been in or owned has had or has electrical problems. weather it be the gauges picking a convenient time to work. Or headlights dimming for no reason, wipers motors just failing, or there security system leaving you stuck at work (been there done that). That being said, I think the 5.3 vortec is a awesome engine. Not crazy for power, but pretty reliable. (better than the 5.4 tritons by leaps and bounds. However Chevy has there fair share of transmission problems like ford does. If anything the Automatic in the full size fords are better than chev(allison aside) . Another thing ford has is interior quality. Any chev I have seen has had the interior you would look it find in your son's or daughters battery operated jeep I have yet to see a GM product that has not had issues with their door handles, electric window motors, even the manual window winders will go, not to mention it sounds like a creaky wooden bridge on the inside. Myself I would wait to find a ford fullsize.

You're buying somebody's problem.

I have an 02 same era but mine is a duramax.I really like the truck as far as how it goes down the road. The interior everything works haven't worked on any thing.I like that it's low easier to get into have the Bronco for off road.A 5.3 in a 2500 is uncommon around here not good for pulling much of a trailer. The gas trucks that I looked at 6.0's that were 2500's with the lower gears were bad on gas.The half tons were better on fuel when I looked. The price is a little high for around here.

6500 for that era of a truck around here isn't horrible, it's not great tho. Im talking about a straight accross trade. I understand i would be buying someone elses problem, but at the moment my truck is always a problem. Not to complain it's only died on me once (when the clutch went out), it seems to have a new problem after i fix one problem. I just fixed my idling issue and now the headlights decided to quit working and the slave cylinder hydraulic line decided to have a hole in it this week. This truck is bleeding me dry, and just the normal expenses that come witha truck are becoming overwhelming with mine. My truck isn't lifted , just bigger tires. I have had countless problems with the suspension and alignment. Things that shouldn't go wrong after 130k miles. Like the leaf springs. I am just getting older, and by the way i look at it, i spend almost the amount in parts each month someone would be paying on a truck payment.
and that suckks

Yes i know, what has this world come to??
I will admit, i was pretty skeptical at first, but i am interested.

if u want a chevy like that go for a dirtymax, u will have a significant amount power over the 5.3 and most likely better gas milage

ive thought about the duramax. My buddy has an 04 duramax, and its a great truck. I like how the transmission fluid is very easy to change, and how its pretty quiet. He averages 20 mpg, and on the highway 23

My cousin in law has one with a 8.1 and Allison (its the facelifted style though) and he gets 16mpg hwy with it if my cousin isn't driving... it gets really bad then. She has fun with it. :D

It replaced the OP's style of truck with a 6.0 and a manual, he ditched it so my cousin could drive a truck if she had to... and he got the big block truck for a steal.

One thing to check out on the LS engines is that they keep the coolant where they are supposed to, not uncommon for the intake gaskets to go out on them.

an 8.1 would be pretty cool to put a true dual exahaust with flowmasters on it. I laugh everytime i see a little car with dual flowmasters, you just can't get the air flow
