Well, I finally aquired a Gen3 Ranger.

that's the horrible part...

the good part is the truck runs (sorta, it burns as many quarts of oil as gallons of gas) and drives (if you can stand what little is left of the clutch)

It's a Blue 1993 4x4 Supercab, 3.0 5sp E-shift T-case (Yech!)
and auto hubs.

I have been dragged (screaming and kicking) into the world of fogged polycarbonate headlamps....

Now all I need to do is figuire out what the hell I'm going to do with this blue refugee from the factory that makes new tunafish cans...

That it'll get a new engine and T-case is certain, the question is WHAT engine...

I've got a 4.0 engine, trans and the correct harness

But I'm starting to think evil thoughts... I'm eying up an early Lincoln MkVIII (still an EEC4 car) for it's 280hp 4.6DOHC engine and there a selection of gen4 supercab frames in the local U-pull-it junkyards... and I already have a B-W 44-04 T-case:)

I was thinking about a rollercam 5.8 and a ZF, but who needs all that cast iron?

The 4.6DOHC engine is all aluminum and actually weighs less than
a 3.0 engine.

So just in case anyone here was doubting that I'm complely insane...

sounds good to me

that or a hemi

I doubt anyone was...:icon_twisted:

So what made you decide to get a 3rd gen?

I mean..why not get a 5th gen? Drive a nice new truck around, although, I'm not sure if they come with sunroofs.....but I'm sure that's something you can take care of.

I'd keep the motor it has.... spray nitrous for a while,

Then get an aluminum v-8, but really if you have the wiring, theres nothing wrong with a 4.0

Sounds like a pretty interesting set up there Allen. 280hp should be ample for a wheeler. It would truly be a one of a kind, I'll give you that. Have fun with the new project man.

Wheeler? I see it a little different

4x4 SLA Ranger frame+280hp V8+AWD t-case=280hp AWD street Ranger...

the yellowed plastic headlights can be fixed right up with a bit of autosol and 5 mins of rubbing.

Polycarbonate headlamps can be cleaned up

Yellowed ones are corrected only by replacement

Mine are merely fogged, yeah, I could "fix" them, but...
for $25 each I can find a truck in the junkyard that some idiot put replacement lights onto it that have Never been fogged and thus
don't need restoration.

Exactly right, I was thinking a Ranger based equivelent of a Jensen Interceptor, except lighter with more power and FAR more reliability:)

In essence the ultimate all-weather freeway runner.

and I'd have the 280hp version of the engine because it's still EEC-IV
They got a 10hp bump when they made the switch to EEC-V but the problems of EEC-V and it's ultra twitchy Evap emissions system isn't
worth the aggrevation and the monumental increase in wiring difficulty.

Not to mention that I could do it with stock torsion bars.

Frankly I'd actually want to lower the truck a little, aerodynamic drag...

And if it dowsn't run as well as I'd expect it to I doubt I'd have any trouble selling it:)

BTW, if I wanted an "offroader" I have an NP205 sitting here too...

a DOHC V8, 5sp and a twin sticked NP205 should be pretty cool...

What 5-speed transmission goes behind the 4.6 and in front of the 4404?

I'm looking for an M5OD-R2 from a '97-up 4.6 F-150.

The B-W 44-04 5.0 AWD Explorer T-case uses the same spline
and SIX-bolt flange as all the classic F-series T-cases, but is
a "compact" T-case with the same external dim's as a 44-05
('95-01 Explorer T-case)

The shifter position on the newer F-150's is better than the '80-96
and what other issues remains I can correct with creative lever
replacement on a Hurst Billet plus shifter.

This HAS to be documented... I want to see it come together, I'd love to do something exactly like this...

+1. Agreed...much documentation is in order. Have fun Allan...
