Which side of the starter relay does the power distribution box attach to?

The side nearer the front of the truck or the rear?

And then am I correct in guessing that the heavy gauge wire to the starter goes on the opposite post?

I'm trying to complete my 4.0 swap and it's been so long since I messed with it I forgot. :idiot:

Thanks!

The PD box connects to the post that has continuity to the battery. IF the starter doesn't have its own relay attached (some 4.0Ls do), the starter cable goes to the post that is NOT connected to the battery with the key in any position but "crank." If the starter does have its own relay, the starter cable goes to the same position as the PD box, and a light gauge wire goes to the starter-mounted relay from where the starter cable would have gone.

I'm using a '91 Explorer harness and starter. The + battery harness connector has a heavy gauge and a light gauge wire in it.

The connector at the relay is shaped like a large "U".

So the starter has 12v applied on the heavy gauge wire all the time and the light gauge wire connects it to energize?

This sounds like I need the heavy wire on the post nearer the front and the light wire on the rear post.

And the PD box and Alt wires will be on the same post as the heavy wire.

Is this correct?

I just don't want to nuke it this close to the finish :scare:
