I emailed torsen asking about a front lsd for a d35 ifs ranger they say

You can purchase the 975420-0207B (Torsen unit for the Ranger IFS Front)
differential by sending $515 ($500 for the differential and $15 for UPS
Ground) to paypal@torsen.com.

Thanks for the question and interest in Torsen!

Would it be worth it? Judging from my rear torsen that works awesome id think so but what do you guys have to say? How come its not advertised if they make them for a ifs ranger? Only one i ever heard of wss a review by a 4x4 magazine where they got one for the front for a ranger prerunner or something similar.

Can you enlighten me as to what an "IFS" Ranger is?

I assume Torsen has come a long way. Back in the 80's, I tried a "Gleason Torsen" in the Dana 44 on my Scout II. I scattered it in about 2000mi. Teeth were breaking in the Torsen unit. Ended up just going with a locker (and never looked back). Put a Detroit TruTrac in the front. My Scout was pretty unstoppable.

If you're happy with th Torsen in the rear, then having one up front would amaze you with what your truck will do (and never did before). It is a lot of fun having that much traction with all 4 wheels pulling.

Have fun!

ifs or independant front suspension means instead of a split beam diff, you have a center pumpkin and 2 cv shafts coming off down to the spindles so each side is independant of the other.

98+ Ranger, 95+ Explorer.

A Torsen and a TruTrac are basically the same thing.

This is good news. Last I'd heard, the only traction device available for the late-model Dana 35 front was the Powertrax No-Slip and that model had been discontinued. If this one actually fits, that is great news. :icon_thumby:

No, NO, NO!!!

ALL Rangers are IFS, unless you've made your OWN Ranger non-independent
by a Solid Axle Swap ("SAS")

Just because some ignorant non-technical savages refer to only
the newer "SLA" suspension adopted in 1998 as "IFS"
doesn't make the earlier "Twin Traction Beam" NON-Independent.

This is why I have been (until now) patiently correcting everyone
who used the term "IFS".

You may regard my patience EXHAUSTED.

Further offenses by using "IFS" will be dealt with
by crucifiction of the offender.

Multiple offenses will be dealt with harshly.

So you are saying that the "twin traction beam" is also a ifs? Hmmmm, who would of thunk it!

If the wheels can move independently of one another then it is by definition and IFS setup.

AllanD sounds like me when old guys refer to any type of limited slip or locker simply as "posi" My personal favorite is when they call a full spool "true posi"

The key difference being since they're older and usually know more than me about other topics, I just keep my mouth shut and die a little inside.

I used to just innocently ask when they put a Chevy axle in their Ranger....

Then I had a guy argue with me and say he didn't have a limited slip, he had a "posi", "which is better"....

I'm rarely afraid to ask someone if it was drugs a motorcycle accident or a stroke that caused their brain damage...

I'm also rarely unprepared to try to balance someone on top of their head if they take offense.

Well, if you want to get technical about it.....
Seriously though, the late-model SLA is sort of the design one thinks of when referring to "IFS".
Not that the TTB isn't independent. Or in the words of the great bobbywalter, "If you put in a solid axle, it isn't a Ranger anymore."
I didn't see that application on Torsen's site, but do we know if that unit will fit the late-model SLA front diff?

So if all the non-SASed Rangers are independent, does that make mine dependent? What is it dependent on?:icon_confused:
