so im going to look at a 92 exploder, eletronic 4wd auto hubs.....i will swap the auto hubs for shure. if i take the manual t case and shifter boot out of my 89, would all i have to do is rewire a little and cut a hole in the floor to make the linkage work? im just makeing shure. the case outta my ranger is behind a FM146, the exploder has the M5OD R1.

i bought the exploder now i need this answered lol

i dont think the M5OD shift linkage will bolt to you FM146...but i could be wrong.

drivelines should be ok.

no need to cut your floor, the whole is already there. there is a metal plate bolted to the floor that you need to retrieve from the exploder and bolt onto your floor.

the wiring is easy, but i havnt "gotten around to it" in the 4 years or so ive had my manual case...its pretty obvious what position the shift lever is in. i would consider wiring optional.

Who needs wiring? You will know what range the transfer case is in because YOU put it in there manually.

Cut the hole in the floor or get a floor plate.

The FM-146 linkage will work on the M50D (that is what I had when I had the BW1350 in my BII behind the M50D). You will have to have the front drive shaft shortened by 1".

ok, so is it possible to use my stock 89 ranger ext cab's front drive shaft?

i had myself all backwards for a bit there :icon_confused:

you will have to use the driveline out of your '89, and it will have to be shortened 1".

Rear drive shaft from the Explorer will work. The front drive shaft out of your '89 is the one you need for the front and it will have to be shortened by 1" UNLESS you put a 6" lift on the Explorer.

hmmmm all that just to swap in a manual transfer case into the exploder....oh well i guess. i thought i could just swap transfer cases and thats it
