Hey all. gotta question for ya...

I have an 89 ranger. originally equipped with the 2.9. the guy before me twisted the main bearing up, and left me the engine half torn apart with no more pieces. So... i picked up a 1990 4.0 motor. I have the motor in the machine shop right now, and the ecm that came with it, (private party). now the plugs from the original wiring harness (2.9) look identical when you put the two ecm's together. Am i able to keep the 2.9 wiring harness in the vehicle and just plug it into the 4.0? It makes sense to me, considering the engines are both 6 cylinders and only one year apart.... but i wanted to get some more opinions first...

Thanks in advance for any help and advise..

Nick

IMHO ... I would expect the harnesses to be the same on the ECM (and body) side, but the wiring may be different due to placement of sensors, routing of wires, etc. Best to use the 4.0 harness with the 4.0 engine.
