Hi Everyone my first post here by have owned a few Ranger's in the past and they all have been Great. I have a few issues that I can't seem to figure out on my own and would like to see if someone else can Help.
My current DD: 92 ext cab 2.3 5sp (actual miles unkown PO said 132000)

I have searched these issues and haven't found anything related.

1. When I first bought it the MAF was FUBARD I replaced it and the truck ran alot better but the CEL is still on and when I check the blink codes I get 519 and can't seem to find exactly what it relates to.

2. The volt gauge seems to hoover around the L in "Normal" but it tends to go upward near the 18V, I end up either turning the headlights and or blower motor on high.

3. Whining noise from the speakers and goes up and down with rpms. I dont have any amp or sub hooked up yet.

If some one can help point me in the right direct I'd appreciate it. Thanks In Advance. :headbang:

Ok so I think I found out the code 519--Power Steering Pressure Switch, Ive seen a few other 519 codes ( Other forums and google) that were labeled PSP but referred to Pedal switch position.

Does anyone know where to start with the volt meter problem? Should I check the alt output? If so how do I go about doing it? I know using a volt meter but do I test it at the battery or Alt?

Hook your voltmeter to the battery. All the power comes out of the alternator on the same big wire. The only time it is really beneficial to check it right at the alternators is if the battery isn't getting charged.

If you get any more than 15 volts, and I mean right down to 15.01V, the regulator is shot and you need a new alternator.

Also, with the engine running, check for AC voltage at the battery. A bad rectifier can allow too much AC voltage into the system which can make it do funny things. An acceptable reading is .003V with an occasional spike. If you have more than .01V AC the rectifier is bad allowing too much AC voltage bleed into a DC system.
