Ok, this was probably covered somewhere and I didnt catch it. If thats the case then Im sorry. Ive got a 90 2.9 Ranger, 5 speed with the electric transer case. Today I locked the hubs and put the truck in 4Lo to crawl around where my dad and I were hauling wood. Well, afterwords I went to get the truck out of 4Lo and it wouldnt.... had to drive home with the flashers on at 35mph..... My dad took the motor off and set the truck back to 2wd and pulled the 60 amp fuse (back at home). Now this will work until winter hits. Id love to convert it to a manual shift, but I have no clue how to do it, what to get, or how much it would cost. My dad is very good with vehicles and would gladly help me. So, can you kind folks here give me some pointers if this kind of swap is possible?

this has been covered quite a few times.

not only is the swap possible...its easy and worth every penny.

you need to buy a complete manual shift transfer case (any year ranger will work). you also need to grab the shift linkage (obviously), the shift boots/trim pieces, and the metal floor plate.

shifter:
the hole for the extra shifter is already cut out of your truck. under your carpet there is a metal trim piece that bolts to the floor to cover up unused portions of the hole (so a truck with an auto trans. and electric shift t-case would have a solid plate, your truck has a plate with the hole for just the transmission, ect.). all you need to do is peel the carpet back far enough to get to the 4 bolts that hold this piece in and unbolt it...then swap in the trim piece from your donor rig. install the shift lever and linkage, then trim the carpet JUST enough to clear the shifter. install the shift boots and trim.

transfer case:
when you snag your donor case, it'll likely be a 1350 (the 1354 manual shifts are somewhat rare). if this is the case, you need to get the front driveline out of the donor vehicle as well. aside from that, you unbolt your current t-case and pitch it in the bushes, then bolt the donor case and front driveline up.

you can even wire your 4x4 lights up to the manual case, but i dont remember which wires you splice into.

If you don't want to go to all that trouble to swap to a manual and you are sure you just have bad electric shift motor a new one (shift motor) can be purchased on ebay for about $60-80 bucks.
