Hi All

Can anyone direct me where to find info on removing the electric Tcase shift motor?

My wife has a 94 Ranger 4.0, 5spd, ext cab, Pushbutton 4x4, manual hubs.
The last snow we had the 4x4 stopped working.

When I push the button I can hear the control module behind the drivers jump seat click but no dash lights come on and nothing else happens.
I looked through the transfercase section and found the sticky for the 4x4 system diag outline and followed that through all the steps. the Control module and the buttons check out ok. I have the 12 volts at the orange wire on the motor and 12v across the orange and yellow wires as stated int he sticky. But still nothing happens other than hearing a click at the control moduling when I push the button.

So it looks like I need to replace the electric motor.
I looked through the this section but did not see any posts about removing the motor. I also searched but I must not be using the search correctly because I also could not find any info.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.
Bill

Also when diagnosing the issue using the sticky mentioned above there is one section I have a question on. I copied below and it shows sequences of opens and shorts. When I put my ohmmeter across as directed I only got the first response in each line. Either open or short but it never flashed or moved to the next thing in each line.
I'm confused on this one.

Thanks, Now there's this One Wire!!!

Thanks for the info.

I was able to remove the bolts and disconnect the big plug, remove the Speed sensor (I think it's called), and was able to take off the motor.

But there is still one wire to the right of the speed sensor that does not want to easily come out of the Tcase.
The other end of this wire goes to the big connector.

I am pretty good at soldering so I have no issue with cutting and splicing but I can't imagine that's the right way to do this.

Any thoughts?
Thanks
Bill.

I did take a pic but I don't see how to attach it to this thread.

you must be talking about the brown wire. you have to remove it form the plug itself or as you stated cut it. i use a small screwdriver to get them out of the plug. it is easier said then done.

Thanks, I figured that out today.

I had no luck getting it out of the plug and I started cussin too :annoyed: much so I just cut it and spliced it to the one I got from the U-Pull&Pay.

Unfortunately I have the same problem.

I just posted asking if there is a bench test for the motor so that I don't have to keep swapping them out.

Thanks
Bill.
