Electric Supercharger...

There's some pretty heated discussions of these in the "forced induction" section.

As far as I know, the general consensus is that, no, they don't really work.

I remember reading an article stating that they actually drain power and reduce gas mileage. If it was a good design I'm sure auto manufactures would be using it as opposed to the conventional belt driven superchargers.

well the amount of current that would require would put a load on the alternator so.. no

Sweet better handling!

Reported Benefits are:

* Increased Horsepower (Kilowatts for my non US friends)
* Increased Fuel Mileage
* Better Vehicle Handling
* Extends Engine Life
* Low cost Upgrade when compared to traditional Turbos and Superchargers

I read about one on the net about 3 years back that worked....but....they had to put several(I think like 4) full size batteries in the trunk to run it. I think they said one advantage was having full boost available with out raising the rpms to get it. I don't remember much else other than they blew the first engine they put it on. I thought an electric supercharger made sense also until I read that article and they explained the huge amount of power(amps) it takes to spin the thing high enough to make much boost.

what? you gotta be kidding me. you mean you guys dont believe that increases handling? I put a bigger turbo on my mr2 and afterwards i was able to take right angle corners at 220 mph. Of course Im nowhere near serious, but the point im trying to make is that kind of advertising should be illegal. I know everyone wants to make a quick buck but what ever happened to truth in advertising?

If its based in America someone could make some money off of them, sueing for false advertising....Of coarse sueing isnt always guaranteed.

I think it will work.

Think about it--the engine is running and it makes the fan spin. It's plastic so it spins easy. It's barely any restriction because its spinning. Then, when you need it, you hit the switch and it has to force in more air. It's not going to slow down the already spinning fan when you turn it on.

Yeah, but it's using energy from the alternator to turn the "fan"... Therefore using more energy than it could make...
