Hey, I need to shave every day for work otherwise my boss will get after me about it. I'm currently using a Gilette Fusion Proglide power(vibrate) razor. It works beautifully, but for every day use is causing irritation. I have tried every other razor out there except for electric shavers. My facial hair is thick, course, fast growing, and generally tough on razors, which is why I'm so skeptical of electrics.

I'm sure in a couple years I'll be able to shave every day, but being that I'm young I still get acne, and when I shave it gets worse.

There are a few out there that I've heard good things about, but haven't tried one ever, I'm usually a bit more traditional but getting sick of looking worse because I shave so often. It does need to be a somewhat close shave.

Do any of you use Electric razors with decent results? What do you recommend?

I would use a strait razor If I had one to be honest. My grandpa was a barber and showed me the technique of how not to cut your jugular.

But I really would, but they are somewhat hard to find now for decent price and quality.

Had real good luck with a 3 bladed flex head phillips, like this.

Got this braun now, shaves closer but is much more finicky about angle of shave etc...

I've always stuck with Remington for electric shavers, but I was never overly satisfied with the results.

I mean, it shaved fairly close and held up good, but for as thick and tough as my facial hair is, the foil would get pretty hot in a hurry.

Lately I decided to try a regular razor, I ordered some stuff from Summit Racing and they threw a couple Schick Hydro 5 razors in the boxes with my stuff, so that's what I tried out. Seemed to work ok for me so I stuck with it since my electric is almost to the point of needing a new blade (and I really haven't had time to search one out).

Don't know if you've tried different shave creams/gels, some are better at not causing breakouts than others for different people.

x2 on that. I've had three electric braun's since I was 16, love the shave I get, no irritation at all, but hard to get the angle right at the neck line.

My second and current braun are cordless (they all are now) and I love being able to roam around while shaving, ie let the dog out, take the trash to the curb. etc. Not that I do that often but sometimes I get a slow start in the morning and have to multi-task, lol.

I'm in the same boat as you, 2 weeks on a blade and my electric razor is shaving almost as much skin as it is beard, which there is always a shadow, not just at 5:00.

The plan is I'm going to switch over to a traditional razor and ultimately end up with one of these:

Another vote for a Braun. I use a light coat of 'lectric shave before I shave. I don't know if their "Stands hairs up straight" stuff is true but the razor definitely glides better and gives me a smoother shave because of it.

If you can afford it get one of the nice self cleaning units, electrics work like crap when they get dirty.

I'm pretty partial to Norelco myself. My biggest gripe is that for most of the entry level models a set of replacement blades is at most $5 different from a new unit.

The model I used to use which has been discontinued now was actually the exact same price as a set of replacement blades.

use the old style shaving brush and soap, the way you make the lather and apply it makes for a very smooth shave without irritation. the bristles on the brush really get it in there inbetween the hairs, much better than rubbing the canned crap on your face. especially if you have a thick, coarse, fast-growing beard.
