Electric fuel pump conversion

I have an early 2.8L Cologne motor and I want to convert over to electric fuel pump. Question: Do I leave the actuating pump rod in the hole for oil control, or make a special rod so it is not bouncing off the cam?

Remove the rod

You should install a fuel pump relay and an oil pressure switch to ground that relay when engine starts and you have oil pressure

Electric fuel pumps have one big issue, they just keep on running if there is an accident or rollover, pumping out gasoline until the gas or electricity runs out

For $15 you can install this safety feature, wiring is easy

You need to install the relay in any case, so might as well install the automatic shut off

Thanks .. Was not sure if the rod is in an oil gallery. Already have a pressure switch and relay system. This is going to be a complete re-wire for the entire animal I am building.

No it shouldn't cause a pressure leak with no rod, you could leave it in there and gravity will just keep it against the block off plate, cam lobe wouldn't touch it
