I have a1989 b2 ive put a electric fan in it and was wandering if I can get the ecu to control a relay to turn it on & off if anyone has delt with this please let me no thanks all

Probably not the ECU because it doesn't monitor radiator temp.

Google: electric fan control probe

Summitracing has a few models, your local auto parts store should as well.

These E-fan controls that have a probe that you insert between the fins of the radiator, probe warms up with rad, they have an adjustable temp setting so you can set when fan comes on and goes off.

They come with just the probe and thermostat if you already have the relay, or you can get them as a Kit with 40amp relay included.

It is best to power the relay from a "key on" circuit, or on warm days the fan may stay running a few minutes after engine is shut off, this is of no benefit and runs down the battery.

The best switches are the ones that actually touch coolant. Like the ones that screw into a port on your t-stat housing or intake. Summit has piles of them too.

eletric fan

thanks the reason I ask I have 86 ranger 2.3 and im putting putting 88 turbo 2.3
and to do it ive got some wireing and a ecu swap the turbo ecu comes with a e fan option factory so with out a long explanation I was hopeing the ecu for the 89 2.9 had the same option ive made my own stand alone controller but I like to stay as factory as posable lol swaping for a non factory efan well what can I say lol

Not sure the ECU was the e-fan controller on the turbos, they did have an e-fan controller under the glove box, I don't think it connected to the ECU.

Controller would have a sensor in the rad, the engine temp sensor, like the ECU uses, wouldn't be the best way to control a rad fan, so no reason for ECU to be involved.

2.3t engine wiring harness would have the e-fan wires, just not sure they end up at the ECU

Never took one apart just thinking out loud on this.
