I'm installing an electric fan system into my '97 2.3 and the wiring diagram calls for a wire to splice into a keyed power source (don't have the exact verbiage in front of me; a power source that shuts off if key is turned off). I looked through the diagram in my Chilton's manual and it wasn't exactly helpful.

Any suggestions on what I can use to to tap into?

If 97 is anything like 91 in that regard, every other slot in the power distribution box (the one with the maxi fuses) is keyed power. Just have to get a test light or meter and start probing...

Not to sound like a complete idiot, but to check, I'd take my test light and then if it shows current with key on and then test it again with key off and it doesn't then I can use that?

On a secondary note, there's a probe that sits inside the rad to send the temp to the control unit. I placed it next to the fins, but how would I keep it from sliding in/out?

I thought those were like a cable tie design. Never actually used one. The preferred method is for a temp probe in the coolant stream.

the kit came with a probe, I just don't want to make a threaded hole to screw the probe in. Never done it before, and didn't want to possibly ruin my brand new rad.

I'd see if the sender for the gauge (Probably one wire.) is pipe thread. If it is, find a way to plumb in T and use that. No drilling.
