94 Ford Explorer, 4.0, automatic...With moderate acceleration, engine seems to ping and or knock, sometimes when you accelerate it gets louder...with all this in mind i thought EGR valve and or solenoid...Soo i took a main vacum source and applied it directly to EGR valve and the valve strokes...but the engine wont die (in the earlier years when you opened EGR valve while idling engine would die)..then i took vacuum gauge and put it on the EGR solenoid and when i mash the gas gauge goes up..it seems as everything is working.
Whats the chances of the EGR port being blocked??

you can get pinging from carbon buildup in the cylinders, try seafoam.

the easiest thing to do is to take the EGR valve off and clean/inspect it.

Well i ran some of that Lucas injector cleaner and what ever else its suppose to do stuff in it about 8 months ago...but i will try seafoam also.
