Well ihad found my EGR valve was bent... and stuck open so i replaced it with a junkyard donor a couple months ago. I found that one to be sticking periodically so I changed it for a new one from autozone. The truck actually seems to run quite a bit better, but as soon as I changed it i Noticed the idle to be far rougher than with the old unit. Maybe the autozone version is slightly different, or does the computer just need to figure it out and fix itself?

the EGR isnt suppose to be active at idle.

try unplugging the vacuum line going to the EGR valve while the engine is idling. if it smooths out, you have some sort of EGR control issue.

if it doesnt smooth out (im guessing it wont), then you have another issue...perhaps the EGR gasket is leaking.

ya, the one that was in the truck when i got it was stuck open a little and made it idle like a harley. lol. i will check to see if i ddin't seal it up right, I have had problems with it sealing just about every time so far. on another note, anyone know of anything that effectively removes silicone?

a razor blade.

theres just about nothing that disolves silicone in a reasonable amount of time...

ya, unplugging it did nothing, i really have a feeling it's the MAF giving me all these problems.

ya, i need to get a security torx bit tho, i only have the normal ones. is it possible that a K&N air filter was over oiled from the factory? seems like all this started steadily getting worse since I installed the filter and cleaned the MAF last time (I just removed the entire MAF unit to clean it last time).

I don't know maybe it's something completely different, imma go find a bit and give cleaning it a shot again thouigh, how do you seal the MAF housing to the airbox? I just put a thin coat of grease between the 2 last time, is there a gasket or something that should be in there?

i believe theres supposed to be a paper gasket between the two.

i never unbolted my maf from the airbox to clean it..

ok well this time im just going to remove the element to clean it as suggested in the tech forums, do i need a gasket for that too?

kool, thanks for your help wick, im going to go look for a bit and give it a shot.

no luck, turn the idle screw in a quarter turn and my idle is livable for now or atleast until the truck gives me some clearer sighns on whats really wrong. thanks anyways tho. that was alot easier than removing the entire maf to clean it.
