EGR Delete in a 2.9?

I was curious as to whether deleting the egr in the 2.9 when adding headers will affect whether or not the truck will run leaner? Is the 2.9 dependent on having that intake temperature controlled by the egr or is it something that can be removed.

depending on the year of the truck, they did not even have EGR from the factory. 86 and 87 had egr all other years did not.
