Looks like dry rot to me. Time to buy new tires before they blow out on you.

the tires are not very old and hardly have any miles on them??? is there any kind of warranty for that???

my dad had a problem with the super swampers on his bronco....the sidewalls blew out of 2 of them while driving down the highway. he found similar cracks in the sidewalls on the other 2. his tires were also not very old and his truck is well maintained and stays in the garage (in other words, it wasnt dry rot).

if i recall, super swamper paid to have all 4 tires shipped to their warehouse for inspection and they eventually reimbursed him.

While I've never had the problem with any of the swampers I've ran, I hear that some have a problem with the sidewalls separating. That might be what you have going on there. Contact whoever you bought them from and see if they'll replace them.

+1, definately a sepperation issue going on

yeah the place i bought them from is about 6000 kms away.. haha... oh well, i guess they'll be receiving a phone call...

I like the shifter...as long as there are no rough edges on it I'd say it was a good idea...

I put a new knob on my shifter and it kept popping off so I found a better screw...only problem was that the screw had rough edges and I kept nicking my fingers on it till I turned it around the other way...didn't think of filing the screw though...

that piston is smooth as a babys bottom, haha... feels pretty solid too, alot better than the stocker...

I'm sure there is a manufacturer warranty against this type of problem. If you happen to have the reciept for them, or if the shop you bought them for has the information, you could probably go to a local SS dealer to get it taken care of(assuming they aren't very old and well beyond a warranty period). They may not have a mileage warranty, but this is not nearly the same thing.

the tire says 1997 in the second pic.if thats the build date they probably won't honor it.if the tire shop kept them around that long i'de say its their fault.i have read in jp and petersons that the swamper sx and others will get scary sidewall cracks if driven on the highway a lot at the wrong tire pressure

thats a copyright date. i doubt its the build date....

How to tell the age of a tire

Yes, the 1997 looks like a copyright date.

Every tire must have a 4-digit date code on it; say, for example, 1505. The first two digits (15) would be the 15th week of the year, and the last two digits would be 2005 (or 1995 for a really old tire).

Thus, 1505 would be the 15th week of 2005. 3604 would be the 36th week of 2004, etc. Check your tires for the date. It will be a 4-digit number, usually close to the rim.

That can tell you their age, but it won't automatically tell you why the sidewall separation is occurring. That's a bummer. I had a set of Mastercraft (Cooper) Courser A/Ts that had that happen on two tires.
