Can anyone tell me where the EEC relay is on my 86 ranger. 2.3 . It does not appear to be in the fuse box. thanks, then how can I test it?

Next to the air box on the inner fender, relay has a brown base, the plug is also brown

Sent from my XT897 using Tapatalk

Yes, should be 2 or 3 similar relays in that location.
Brown base is EEC relay
Green base is Fuel pump relay
Black base is WOT relay(wide open throttle), this turns off A/C and tells computer not use O2 sensors, just give engine lots of gas, lol, it is triggered by the TPS(throttle position sensor)

weird problem gang, when I jumper wire the relay it gives me fuel and spark, but when I put a new relay in, (on my second one), got nothing. any Ideas?

bad relay or bad connection

bad realy?

could be, the relay is the second new one from napa. the connector looks good and all the wires test including ground. could something be killing my new relays as soon as they get power?

Should be one contact on relay base with 12volts all the time, key off or on doesn't matter, this 12volts is from a 30amp fuse and when relay closes this 12volts is passed on to injectors and coil, among other things.
Relay is rated higher than 30amps so fuse should blow before relay is damaged

One contact will only have 12volts when key is on, this 12volts comes from ignition switch, it activates(closes) the relay, when key is turned to RUN or START.
This should be rated above 15volts, so unless your alternator/regulator is bad this part of the relay shouldn't get "fried"

It will be in the engine compartment power distribution box.

This fuse supplies power to engine electrics, but not to the EEC relay itself, if this fuse was blown then engine would not start even if you jumpered EEC relay base.

The EEC relay is powered from the ignition switch

thank you all, after much testing, it appears, however unlikely that I got 2 new but bad relays from Napa. they have tested them and they don't work. they have another one for me, that they are testing before they leave the store. I will let yall know what happens. Mike.

Could be worse Mike. A guy I work with got two bad crank sensors for his Impala. You gotta take half the car apart to replace those buggers.

"new" no longer means "it works"
"new" now means "never tested"

Almost makes you want to only shop at wrecking yards, get "previously tested" parts, lol.

Not surprised at all. I’ve had more bad experiences with Napa’s garbage Echlin line than I can count. Stay away from Echlin parts!! Go to your Ford dealer or Rockauto and order a Motorcraft one. The third Echlin one will fail in no time.
