I bought a 2001 ranger 3.0 manual... it was stole from the person I bought it from but returned without keys. They stripped the column an the security ring is missing. Can I have someone flash an erase the Pat's system or will I have to buy a matching column/ecu an cluster? Thanks

They stole the truck WITH the keys, broke the column anyway for some reason, then brought the truck back but kept the keys? :icon_confused:

Yes whoever stole it was chased by the cops an they jumped out to run an for some odd reason took the keys an threw them...needless to say they was never found....an I saw where it said Pat's off a 2000 could be removed but I am not sure if they switched anything from 2000 to 2001 an at least I did get a title when I bought it lol

But... If they had the keys why did they rip apart the steering column? And how did they get the keys in the first place?

The only way to remove the PATS system is to have a tune shop reprogram the current ECU.

The guy was showing the guy which was an acquaintance of him the truck in his yard while he was washing it the guy sat down an asked if he could start it an he said go ahead an the guy took off...an then the law got after him an for some reason when he stopped to run on foot he threw the key. The cops returned the truck awhile later an the original owner thought he could just basically hotwire it... which he messed up the column but I got it for $400 dollars with title... I hope I didnt mess up buying it

Well there is no way to hot wire it or bypass the system, it wouldn't be a very good security system if you could. You have 2 options, replace the transceiver ring (universal part it is not coded to anything), get a new ignition cylinder with 2 new chipped keys cut to match, and then you can delete the old keys from the computer and add the 2 new keys using Forscan software. You need a windows laptop, an OBD2 adapter, and licensed version of Forscan.

Or take the ECU out of the truck and send it to a custom tune shop that does PATS delete.

My truck was stolen from a friend and he left the key in it and I didn't think I would get it back but I did. It's a 2001 Ford Ranger 4X4 and I no longer have the key. I have my title showing I'm the owner but my question is can I replace the steering column and do without a chipped key?
