EcoBoost in a Ranger? How long before its done?

If it was simple, everyone would be doing it.

and CHEAP! .... :D

Not everyone have 15-20k $ to toss on a truck :P

the biggest issue i see with this motor is the turbos themselves, its great on paper, until the day you "lose" a turbo, weve got a oliver diesel at the farm with a turbo, and every few years it will lunch one, its a gutless dog with a non-working turbo, and a rebuilt unit is $1,000. this tractor is so old that only rebuilt units are available. its a awfull lot of stuff to fit under a ranger hood as well.....

I have worked at a small farm shop for 3.5 years, we have replaced 1 turbo. It came in for blown manifold gaskets and noticed it was really loose. If you are losing one every few years something is wrong or you need to shop elsewhere for turbos (not all diesel shops are created equal) Also check all the hoses, turboes don't like eating dirt. Also check the oil supply.

Usually they last for years and years without a problem. And usually when they fail they take the engine with them to add to the fun of it all.

Even down a turbo the Ecoboost can still make 10psi on one good one.

The $15-20k on a truck it SO bad, it is usually that trucks up for a swap are only worth $1-2k if they run good. You put $20k in it and you would be lucky to get $5k out of it.

It is not about the money spent. It is about making something totally unique. People tell me to drop a LS6 in my RX-8. A V8 in a vehicle that is meant to have a rotary is just wrong.

Once again, if it was simple, everyone would do it.

Might as well just do a 5.0 Coyote. Then not have to worry about the turbos and intercoolers. I believe they make a standalone harness for it. They put one in a 67 Galaxie on Fast n Loud

I love the Coyote but it don't fit well in a hole that didn't have a mod or big block option.

Somebody was putting one in a Ranger when they first came out, it was really tight... like no heater and funky steering tight. Not worth it IMO.

When someone has enough time and money...they will stick a egoboost in a ranger.
Alot of work to do...all the computer wiring..etc. Also have to change your gas pedal from cable to drive by wire.
I know alot of the old nissan 240's/300z are putting in the newer VQ35 v6 motors and there are companys out there making "kits" for a plug and play operation into older cars.
Just a matter of time until the Egoboost gets the same attention.

I love my coyote in my 2011 f150 screw 4x4...and get the same MPG of every egoboost owner I know. Sad thing is i have 3.73 gears and they have 3.55's...go figure.
Also the new coyote in the f150 is the exact same motor they use in the Boss Mustang. only thing different is the intake, cams, and computer program. (its on my to do list as soon as my factory warranty expires)!

I couldent imagine either engine in a ranger honestly...would be scary fun!

FRPP has all that you would need for the installation, CPU, wiring, pedal, all designed for a stand alone installation. Haven't found one person that doesn't like the new 5.0. I would hate to work on one compared to the pushrod motors.

The Ford Racing control pack isn't for emissions controlled vehicles though, that will effect some out there.

It would be nice if they made one that would be street legal for emissions.

I haven't looked in a while but last I looked they didn't have that yet for the ecoboost, just the Coyote. They said they were developing the stand alone kit years ago when they put the ecoboost in that 34 ford.

And as for the Coyote getting the same mileage as the ecoboost, that's believable, but the Coyote has noticeably less power as well. I test drove two f150s back to back before I bought my ecoboost.
