Does anybody out there know which wire into the ECM is the power wire? My poor little B2 has a short that I don't feel like chasing, so I put a kill switch on the battery. Down side is that when I kill the battery, the computer's memory gets wiped and it runs like crap for the first 10 minutes. Also, should I be seeing a check engine light when I start the B2? If so, I should probably be looking for a bulb for that.

If you aren't going to fix it right, you're going to make a broken POS. Now, it runs like crap for 10 minutes. But it runs. Screw up your computer power, and you'll make a no-start.

FIND THE DRAIN. You don't feel like it? Then maybe an old truck isn't right for you.

I suppose you might light a check engine light if you actually had one....

And you DESPERATELY need a tech who understands even the basics about electricity if you think any modifications to your PCM are necessary to keep presets. You'll only break stuff. Don't touch your electrical system.

MAKG is right. It won't take that long to do it right. Try the alternator first. If the diodes go bad the battery will drain completely within an hour or so.
The 86 didn't have a check engine light. You can get codes with a voltmeter or a test light and a paper clip. Jump a few wires and read the flashes. Haynes manual will tell you how.
For your info pin #1 (Yellow Wire) is 12 volts constant and pin # 37 (Red Wire) is 12 volts switched on the EEC IV computer
