Ebay diesel Ranger

Hi, I am new to the site, and am very interested in swapping out my 4 speed trans in my 83 diesel ranger for a 5 speed. You mentioned early Rx-7 trans would work. What years? and what about the clutch and shift linkage? Any info would be appreciated.
Thank you

the 2.2 and the 2.3 turbo diesel transmissions are different.
the 2.2 uses a 4-5 speed with integral bell housing. the 2.3 turbo, uses a standard type bell housing which allows the use of several transmissions.
the only upgrade to the ranger 2.2 diesel 4 speed is a Mazda 1st generation rx-7, 5 speed. the ranger 5 speed is almost non-existent. so the rx-7 tranny. the drive line will need to be shortened. and the shifter ends up further back.
most 2.2's came with 3.73 rear ends, but a 3.90 or 4.10 would be better with the new tranny. with the mazda tranny and a turbo limited to about 5 lbs boost i would stick with the 3.73 gears. (my next mod on my truck is to add a turbo).

i'm currently checking the mx-5 miata transmission to see if it's bell housing will fit.

Dos anyone now what mod can be done to the 2.3 turbo diesel to get more power out of it without blowing it.

thanks
