I'm planning to have a Eaton TrueTrac installed in my truck in January to replace the stock open differential. I've never messed with axles, and this truck is my DD so I'm just going to have it professionally installed.

Does anyone have experience with the TrueTrac? I know they don't work if you have a wheel in the air, but I'm fine with that. I don't plan on having this truck in anything that heavy. I'm just more concerned with durability. I know they never need rebuilt, but has anyone had one fail?

I ran a Tru Trac in my Toyota and never had a problem, worked great.

I have one in my 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 in the front axle. It has been great and locks the front pretty good for a limited slip. It is a full carrier replacement and was about $600+- for the part and more for the install. I've put in a powertrax no-slip in my ranger and couldn't be happier.

How does the Powertrax do in town? This truck is my daily driver and I do go wheelin as much as I'd like to. Probably 95% of my driving is in town so I want something with good street manners. I got quoted $400 for TruTrac install with new carrier bearings, but I could probably install the Powertrax myself which would save some dough.

It has some tire chirp when turning on pavement when on the gas but who gives a chit. It is my daily driver too. I don't spin one rear tire now when pulling out into traffic when there is fine gravel on the road, it just hooks up and goes. I can also do 180 turn arounds on snowy roads now too, just turn and tap the gas and tada! Love it!
