my 83 2.3 ranger keeps eating starters, ill put a different one in and it will sound work fine for a while then start to grind and eat it up. all the teeth are on the flywheel and all the bolts have been tight so idk what to do

I had this same problem a few months ago. Are you looking at the flywheel? turn it to see all the teeth

Also check your plugs. My issue was solved by fixing a cross in my spark plug wires in the number 1 and 2 cylinders. which was causing hard starting and caused my starters to fail prematurely

sounds like you have bad spots on your flywheel, another thing, have you ever had the tranny down for anything? if you did and somebody removed the shim plate for the tranny and didnt reinstall it it could cause the teeth to be misaligned and skrew a starter. my trk has a manual tranny and i made sure it went back on when i had the flywheel off for inspection during a trans swap.

well i just had this problem at work other day. check the hub of ur flywheel. ur flywheel could be cracked and going off track. (not spinning straight)

i have a good used flywheel and starter i can hook you up with cheap.
