The forward E-Brake cable broke and bought a new one from the Ford stealership. The problem is when it broke it also broke the release handle return spring in the e-brake mechanism.
I ordered this as well by VIN from Ford. Wrong one. Totally different. The ford dealerships parts response was that they didn't know why but to schedule an appointments with the service dept.
I tried a couple of local junk yards but nothing even close.
I am so confused. Is there an after market E-Brake system I can buy. Due to hilly area here I must fix this ASAP.

My beater is 250K 98 2WD 2.5 Liter L4 extended cab.

Somehow I'm not surprised. Most Ford dealerships have lousy customer service from what I've seen. Best bet might be to do some searching online for what you need. I usually try that first, then there is one local dealership where I know a couple guys that work there and can usually get answers. The one guy now works in service there, but he gets me answers when nobody else can. If it's discontinued, I've found that sometimes the part number is enough to find what I need online. I always get them to print diagrams too, makes it easier to be sure we're both on the same page

Its almost like my truck is a crossover year cause the part number always show the wrong part on Google searches.
