Pics from over 4th of July weekend

Figured these would be worth posting (ran the trail from north to south)

1st night on the Dusy I spent across from Lakecamp Lake (not sure, but does that tree have cancer? lol)

There were granite domes & peaks like this pretty much everywhere along the trail

2nd & 3rd nights were at Ershim Lake (best camping spot on the trail, I think)

We stayed the 4th night at Thompson Lake. sorry no pics, it was night when we got there, and we split early the next morn. Wasn't a whole lot to see of the lake anyway though, I believe it's almost turned completely into a meadow.

The group I was with consisted of 6 Jeeps (5 Wranglers and a CJ-7), and me one Ford Bronco II lol

33 miles of rocks, rocks and more rocks (I'd rate this trail a little more difficult than the Rubicon Trail, not including Rubicon's famous Little Sluice box, which is bypassable). The entire trail is 9000 feet elevation or better.

Every vehicle in the group experienced an issue of some sort, ranging from broken leafspring shackles, a failed trackbar mount, jam nuts coming loose on the link of one guy's YJ coil conversion (resulting in the axle shifting to one side and messing up his fender), a smashed exhaust pipe (which then started rubbing on the front driveshaft), a dead alternator, two loose pitman arms, and NUMEROUS episodes of dead Optima batteries (apparently they don't do so well playing the stereo for 4-5 hours at camp  )
If it weren't for a rock sneaking up and sticking my undercarriage on a right turn around a tree (bending my trans crossmember), I might've come away clean, but not quite lol.
Fortunately one dude had an onboard welder, so the shackle and trackbar repairs didn't present much of a holdup (the dude with the alt. had a spare too, if you can believe that:shok: ).

No one broke any axles (there were no D35 rears in the group, thank goodness). One guy's Currie HP 8.8/9" rear started leaking at the axle seal pretty bad though.

Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Edit:
Dang, Cardomain sure does know how to make a pic look like crap (jpg compression) :(

Many you guys have some awesome trails down there. I'd love to do a trip with you guys some day! Thanks for sharing.

Sweet pics man, I envy you. I've been wanting to run that trail since the first pics I seen of it. I'll be ready for a run next year.

Cool Beans!

That's a beautiful trail.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I had a blast, BII did excellent as well. Any trail up in the Sierras is definitely worth checking out.

Dusy is quite remote though, so if your vehicle doesn't get good gas mileage, be sure to bring a few 5 gallon jerry cans with you, you'll need 'em (I had right about a half-tank left at the end of the trail, but by the time I drove the 20 (?) miles back into town to the nearest gas station, I was down on "E".

Reason?

During that time, two others in the group ran out of gas (one died directly in front of that sign at the end there), so we had to siphon a few gallons into each of their Jeeps from mine (everyone else was running on fumes as well) so they could get into town (these two Jeeps naturally had V8 conversions too).
Gotta love a 2.9L with a 23 gallon factory tank lol :D

Not only would I love to try that course, what makes it 10 times better is the views. Those are flippin awesome!

Thats what makes the Sierras so nice

At least there's one thing on the B2 that doesn't need improvement from the factory, the 23 gallon tank!

Wow, that is absolutly gorgous, looks like a un-real time... You most likely answered this already... but where did your ranger GO:dunno: I have been wanting the sky cage since i saw your truck... BUT... where did it go?

You mean the rack?
I still have it, but I took it off the truck because it was affecting my mileage (wind anchor).

The Ranger is sortof more the DD/hauler since I got the BII. Nothing has been taken off it for the BII however, it's still very wheelable. Thanks for asking about it though.

SWEET I will be in so cal for the next 5 yrs for navy how far is it from san diego? 1 big ? how wide are the trails cause I am thinking about bringing down my big 68 and if it will fit on the trails it would be a lot of fun thanks
