durrr...is it bad if my gas tank is sittin on my skid plate??

Mine is just on the skid after the axle swap. I finally figured out where I left the bolts

its only bad if the bolts holdin your skid plate rust out. but I wouldnt trust that for too long

I don't know if my straps are still holding. For all I know, my gas tank could have been sitting on the skid plate for years. I should probably check on that... At least I finally replaced my rear spring shackles. Those were pretty scary.

Rust paint????

I coated...soaked...my straps in rust paint before putting them on four years ago...I had to drop the tank to get at a bolt and they were as good as nude...

wow im not the only one hahaha:D i plan on fixing it, i just dont have the time or resources right now. but everything looks good under there.....except the straps.....so it should hold for a while.

Hell, I had a '64' really rusted out Scout, came out in the morning and the tank was on the ground. Floor boards were chucks of plywood covered by old carpet. Opened the door one time and the door fell off, hinge pin let go. With the slant 4, it could go about anywhere.

Only one of the BII's I have has a skid plate... I got screwed...Damn.

One already has a huge dent in the tank, but, no leakage:D

ha i just replaced my straps today cuz the one was rusted through. thank god for the skid plate. since i removed the skid plate i sanded it all down and coated it with some of that truck bed liner stuff from autozone. im gonna use these stencils and paint on it "if you can read this flip me over" in red to match the whip

If it was not for my skid plate and the re-enforcements I did on it my gas tank would look like a crushed aluminum can after wheeling today.
