I don't believe so.... completely different lineage, one being essentially a pissed off pinto engine the other a mazda sourced engine, but hey - ya never know. I know that there are clips on youtube, and info on the web of a certain volvo head that works with a little tweaking on a 2.3 and its a DOHC as well, but dont recall specifics. Rangers switched from Lima's to Duratecs after 2000 i think and i know the 2.0 duratec in our contour looks NOTHING like the 2.3 in my buddy's 1988 mustang. SOmeone else may have a better answer, but Good Luck!
I can say that after digging around, the one in Your contour is an E/W engine and the Mustang is a N/S engine, which would at least initially explain the "looks nothing like it" factor. The post about the Volvo is on a sticky in this section, if memory serves. I may just have to ditch the Lima altogether and get a Duratec DOHC 4 setup with an automatic for my 97... or maybe the DOHC V6 from the Lincoln....
