Duraspark/TBI

Well i just planned on getting all the fuel lines, tank and pumps from the 2.9 on the bronco II.

Was it hard to put in the new fuel lines?

Not at all we just follow the frame and put them on it, used zip ties and the other holders that the old fuel lines ran through.

So how is the performance now that you got the TBI on?

Has more but until we can get my dads fuel consumption down we wont know fully but there is a difference. With the carb set-up he couldnt break the tires and now he can. Putting the TBI unit on is like putting a 350cfm carb on, the factory carb is rated at 280cfm.

Mine doesnt thave the fuel problem that his does so hopefully within the next month I will have it driving on the road (new job).

I think my dad may have to get a higher up name in fuel regulator for his. But for some reason, right after shut off (and the 6 seconds that the fuel relay switch keeps the pump on after turn off) it losses fuel pressure imediatly, unlike mine that takes a few days to completely loss it. The only difference between our set-ups are the fuel pumps and tanks we are using. But for right now my dad doesnt care, he just wanted to get rid of the carb. system. I know thsat in the future we are going to have to do valve glides on his as he is now burning a very slight amount of oil.

Mine on start-up can chug at 650rpm (when warmed up its at 800 rpm) and run just fine, as for my dads of it gets to 800rpm, and when you go to give it fuel, it almost wants to stall and it burns rich, so we have it set at 1000 rpm.

I don't have TBI - I'm in California - but I've driven a TBI and it is much better; but I have limited experience driving one. It seems to have better power throughout the the lower and mid range. If I could do it legally, I would.

My dad can do 60mph and hardly have his foot on the gas pedal with the TBI. As for having more get up and go, it does much better in the lower and mid range rpm.

As for gas milage one of the reasons it doesnt do the best is because he puts it in 5th gear by 40mph in town, doesnt run the truck in its rpm range like it should be.

What his gas mileage like? I can hardly do 60mph with my foot to the floor lol

Before we found out that the TBI regulator leaked, it was 10 mpg. Now that it is replaced we dont know yet. He really hasnt tinkered with his after market one anymore to try to get better milage. His still does a small black cloud of smoke on every start-up. As for mine doesnt do that

Like I said he may have to get a better named regulator for his but I dont think he really cares about the milage, he just didnt want the carb. set-up anymore.

oh lol, well i dont want the carb setup anymore either but i need to get better gas mileage. Only getting 8 mpg is hurting my wallet

Valve guide seals mine did that until I changed the seals and my 2.8 is getting close to 18mpg highway and 15mpg mixed driving with a duraspark and non feedback carb. The biggest improvments are cold starts, idles at lights and no smoke on startup plus overall pep 0-70mph I guess you can say 200% improvment. Oh yea it holds oil now almost time for the first oil change where I didnt have to add oil in between Whoo Hoo. When I did the seals there were only two that were kinna working the other ones were basically gone. It took me about three hours and I used the air pressure method to hold the valves up and is explained in the 2.8 V-6 section in the tech library

I had to go to work early this morning and my dad drove me. He started up the truck and was able to back out of the driveway immediatly instead of having to wait for it to warm up, like what the factory set-up made him do. The only time we were having to add oil to his was when he had the carb. set-up on, oil was leaking past the fuel pump. But since the TBI, we made a block off plate for the fuel pump hole and used RTV sealent (black color) and it hasnt leaked since.

His engine had 27,000 miles on a rebuild on it when he got it, but heres the kicker, the truck we got it from sat for 4 years. It smoked at first but after awhile it stopped and now its smoking agin so I think one or more are going out on him.

We still have to figure out why his is losing all of his fuel pressure when he turns off his truck.

It has to be the pump, the injectors dont leak on turn off, new regulator,. The pump was to orignial on from the JY that came with the tank.

Could the valve in the pump cause it to not keep proper pressure while running thuse causing poor milage? The fuel pressure guage says it only runnning at 40-42 psi, should be higher.

That sounds like it's too high to me. But I don't know what it's supposed to be either. :p High fuel pressure can cause just as many problems as low pressure.
