Duraspark Install

Well it seems like I am not getting spark from my dizzy. Is the rotor suppose to hit the posts in the cap or just get close enough to jump?

Thats normal do you get spark from the coil when you put a spark plug in the wire for the dizzy set it on ground and crank the engine.

Not getting spark from dizzy is normal?. Yes I get spark from coil. So it my problem right now is that I can't crank the engine with the key.

Give me a break you say your not getting spark at the dizzy but you cant crank the motor which one is it your dancing around here. Fix the starter thing then fix the spark thing.

I can get it to crank with jumping the starter solenoid but not with the key.

Run a wire from the red/ltblu to the small terminal on the start solenoid that is the wire that goes to the white wire on the duraspark module.

Well i will now crank over from the key and has spark from the dizzy. My brothers friend poked at it with me and he things the timing is super off. He suggested i take dizzy out and reset it to TDC. Any suggestions?

TDC on compression stroke rotor at 11 oclock, or rotate the wires on the dizzy until you get it to fire. Set it at 10 degrees without vacum to the dizzy or 20 degrees with vacuum.

OK thanks, its too late to mess with it now.

Well i rotated the wires 3 posts in clockwise and 2 counter and it didn't start, my battery died so i called it a night.

You could be 180degrees off on the dizzy. My setup is one plug off conter clock wise due to when I put my dizzy in, it went in off a tooth. One thing you should try is putting a little bit of fuel in the engine to see if igntion is occuring.

Put it on tdc on number one cylinder on the compression stroke and pull the dizzy cap and see how far the rotor is from the number one plug tower.

How do you guys usually find TDC?

Put your finger in the #1 plug hole and turn the crank until you feel compression and line up the wide groove marked TC with the pointer. The rotor on the dizzy needs to be pointing at 11 oclock or near the #1 post on the cap. I f it dont push all the way down judge ow far the rotor will turn when the dizzy is all the way down and turn the crank until the oil pup lines up and the dizzy drops all the way. Keep doing that until it is at 11 oclock and the TC mark on the compression stroke is lined up with the pointer not the round thing.

OK i got it to TDC and the rotor is pointing to 11 o'clock. I will try to start it again tomorrow.

Any of the towers can be number one cylinder but using what's marked on the cap helps make life easier. My number one plug is on my number six.
