Well bought me one of these dist and guess what will not fit the 2.8 now I am stumped, the drive gear on the factory dist is 18 tooth and the duraspark is 17 tooth and if I could just swap gears but the factory inside dia is smaller then the dura. Please any help on this??????

Sure you got the right distributor in the box?

Got it to fit, had to grind the first lip on the dist, ya know it is just hard to screw up some 60 bucks, now which direction should the vac advance face towards the valve cove at an angle to #1? Other thing that is bugging me is the difference in teeth on the drive gear.

If there truly IS A DIFFERENCE in the number of teeth the new one won't work! THINK about it a while and you will come to the same decesion. That extra tooth will get the dist out of time bout maybe 16* retarded every revolution.. I cannot see it even meshing with the cam gear.

Is this a 2.8 that you want to put a duraspark in? I ask because you're posting in the 2.9 forum.

Are you POSITIVE the gear tooth count is different?

How much of a difference in shaft diameter is there?

I can't for the life of me imagine grinding a distributor I'd just purchased when it was obviously the wrong part.

Well it is the right part just a bad casting, now by grinding I do not mean sparks flying just using the angle grinder with a course buff pad to smooth it up. As it was put in you could see where the dist and block were interfering so I just buffed away until it dropped in mostly smooth the casting. NAPA called the rebuilder and the gear would either be 17 or 15 tooth. Where I am at a loss is the distributor is for a MustangII V6 and the 2.8 ranger uses an 18 tooth gear and there is no way to make it fit as the 2.8 factory dist shaft is larger. Today I turned the engine by hand and watched the rotor to see how it was going to line up with each rev and appears to be OK.
One other thing how can I get this posting to the 2.8 forum I messed up as usual.
