I bought a 2011 2 Dr Ext Cab Sport (2wd 4.0 auto) from Carmax. It was advertised as a 4 Dr, but I bought it anyway because the condition was excellent and the price / trade was really good. I love my little black truck, but I really wonder why Ford made an Ext Cab with only 2 doors. Doesn't make much sense to me having storage space I can't get to. What am I missing?

On the bright side, there is a little extra space for a leather / pwr seat mod.

Ext. cabs were 2 door long before they were 4 door...pull the seat forward and hit the seat back lever...plenty of room. If yer moving bodies, throw it in the bed.

It's one of them things that kind of evolved I think. Started with std cab and someone probably suggested adding a little more room behind the seats so came the ext. cab. Little more thinking after awhile and someone might have said, how about room for people. In '98' 3" inches added to the wheelbases and first year of the 4 doors. Best I can come up with.
Dave - Love my four doors, on all of them

Well, you can do what I have been doing for the last twenty years and just throw stuff you want in the back over the seat, then reach back there to get it back out.

I didn't even know they still made a 2 door ext cab in 2011.

In '98' 3" inches added to the wheelbases and first year of the 4 doors. Best I can come up with.

Except that the extended cabs didn't gain 3" that was only standard cabs.

2011 was the last year of the Ranger so they probably just ran out of the rear doors and filled it in with some extra metal...as long as the horn works and the wheels roll I think it's workable.

My 2006 is a 2-dr extended cab. That was exactly what I wanted, and I was glad I found one. My dad used to have a ~2001 GMC Sonoma company truck with the 3-door extended cab. The doors eventually got loose and rattly. Every time you closed the driver's door, you could see the rear door visibly shake. Definitely didn't have that quality solid "thud" when you closed the door. Granted, it was a GM and not a Ranger, but I didn't want to have that issue a few years down the road. A 2-dr extended cab solves that issue. I have easy enough access to the rear without the rear doors.

Hey, you get suicide doors without the million dollar price tag.
