dual to one piece drive line swap

Ahh thanks for the clarification...yes it is 2wd. It's strictly a daily driver, so I probably don't need the crossmember. It's the A4LD tranny...

Removing the rivets that hold in the crossmember is FUN :fie:

Get a good angle grinder with grinding and cutoff wheels.

Or ideally, if you have a friend who's good with a cutting torch (he is going to be cutting very near the gas tank....BOOM!) let him do it.

It's not that difficult with a grinder, just very time consuming.

Grind/cut off the rivet head and then use a hammer and punch to knock it the rest of the way through.

Whatever the rivets are made of, it is very tough.

I hear ya, I had to grind off the rivets on the radius arm brackets when I lifted my Bronco...definitely a PITA...

Sorry to ask these newbie questions, I'm a full size guru and don't know much about these Rangers...I did some research and found out the Auto tranny in the 98 and 99 Rangers is the 4R55E, not the A4LD that I have in my 89. Does this matter if I put a one piece driveshaft out of a 98 or 99? Will it bolt right up or do I need different u-joints?

Okay okay, I'm an idiot and finally found the tech writeup on this swap. Sorry to waste everyone's time...the search function on this site is not very user friendly :)

Yep, rear spline output is the same, A4LD/4R44E/4R55E/5R55E.

dicks driveshaft online (not a bad joke)

ok i called them to see how much there 330.00$ driveline would cost to ship.
these guys are scary. i will pay more and have a local company make it. i have seen there name in other posts. after repeating myself at least 3 times. he kept saying we have a driveline for your truck for 330? i could hear the tv in the background blaring away. he finally said let me get ralph or ray to help you. while i was holding i just hung up:icon_confused:
