dual shackels

a few of my friends have been putting chevy 8" shackels and the 8" shackels from theat two there leafs, seems kinda sketchy opinons please cause you get much more flex when this is done so im thinkin about it

let me try and get this, are the attaching 1 shackle to the leaf spring and then another shackle to the end of the first one and then to the hanger, is this it

yea so one of them folds up and allows for an extra 8" of flex on the rear axel

I'm not so sure thats a good idea... or how it's going to work...

I was going to run dual shackles on my rear springs when I do my 8.8 swap, like a full floating leaf spring. one in front and the other in the rear (the stock one) and get rid of my blocks. Gotta find ways to keep the axle in place though lol.

Well there's a product called "revolver shackles" which are similar, but I'm told to stay away from them. They look good on RTI ramps, but get funky and do wierd things on real world wheeling/driving.

ya they seem kinda scary unless i can come up with a way to make the shackle hugging the frame stay solid otherwise there is just to much room for play

ya thats them alright looks great on the ramp but scary on the trail espeacially going down hill

the problem with that setup is the shackles would not stay straight as drawn. once weight is placed on the axle, the shackles will pivot on the middle pivot so one shackle will be upside down (forming sort of a V). droop performance would be excellent, but compression will be a problem as the leafs will hit the hanger.

Plus the spring is then no longer acting as part of the suspension, it's now just hanging there without transferring any weight onto the wheel for traction.

If you want more flex, softer and/or longer leafsprings with longer (single) shackles are the way to go.


Look for the 63" Chevy ½ton spring swap mod. That should get you quite a bit more flex
