Hey guys.. Well I just did a Diagnostic Code check on the Ranger and was able to pull Code 23 Which is "Throttle sensor out of range or throttle set too high - TPS ". What does this mean? Bad TPS? Also are these adjusted when replaced? Or is it something you just bolt on when replaced?

Been having som problems starting the first time, usually starts second time.

It could be the manual throttle stop set too high. If while it is running and you unplug the TPI and the engine continues to run at a high rpm, adjust the throttle linkage where it will idle at approximately 750 - 800 rpm with the TPI unplugged. If the engine dies when you unplug the TPI, then the manual adjustment is set too low. A TPI isn't too expensive and doesn't need to be adjusted when replaced. It's about a ten minute job.

+1. I did want to add that I think you are supposed to unhook the Idle Air Control Valve too. At least I always have. I've always unhooked it and held it at 2000 rpm for a few seconds then let it drop down to 850.

Well I checked for voltage at the 5v reference wire and the ground on the connector and it does read voltage, but when I open up the throttle it does nothing, just stays at the constant voltage and volt meter does not move at all. Dead TPS sensor correct?

Sounds like you just confirmed a dead TPS!

If you have a few days, check Rockauto.com for one. I bought mine on there for about 30 bucks...and it was motorcraft.
