I am replacing the drums and shoes on my 1998 Ranger XLT. I replaced all springs etc exactly how they were before. However, the smaller shoe is in front and somebody stopped by and told me that was wrong. He said that the larger shoe is usually always in front, and that it was probably just messed up last time somebody did it wrong. Is he right and I should reverse it? Or is the smaller shoe supposed to be in front? Thanks

small shoe in front (less friction material goes forward)

Your "buddy" is wrong, the primary shoe(smaller friction) always goes up front. Some cars they are the same(primary to secondary) in which case it usually dosent matter depending on the hardware setup. Josh

+1 Smaller shoe in front. My 67 F100s have the same shoes (primary and secondary).

Is your buddy a betting man? Bet him a months worth of votes for us he is wrong, then show him this thread....we get an extra person voting for one month....he is wrong.

hes extermly wrong
the secondary or bigger shoe goes on the back
but (atleast on mine) they are the exact same size, with, hole pattern
