Well, I got tired of the multi colored ranger (different shades of grey and black) so 4 cans of rustoleum primer later, here she is.

I'm debating on going with OD green next... any thoughts?

(BTW, for some reason, the previous owner stick welded, carved, keyed, and cut his name into this truck in probably 20 different places)

If you take the time to do it right a rattle can paint job will look good and last just as long as a regular paint job. You just have to prep it the same way. I did it once and last I heard the paint was going on 3 yrs without any flakes or bad spots.

Start by removing parts that won't get painted, bumpers, tail lights, etc. Then rough sand the whole vehicle (at least the parts that will get painted). That's a good time to fix body issues if you want, dents, dings, and rust. Next tape off everything that won't get painted such as windows, mirrors, etc. Anything not taped will get over spray on it so make sure you cover everything and get a good seal with the tape. If you can paint inside an enclosed space with good ventilation and a mask. This just keeps dirt and debris from screwing the paint up after you took all the time to get it ready. Give it a day to dry and enjoy.

I also prefer flat or semi gloss paint. Gloss spray paint is hard to get an even coat so it will come out splotchy and look off even if you do it right.

Yeah, he was weird. Emo / redneck / preppy, and in seminary college. It's a shame he took out his angst on the truck....

It HAD a good paint job, then he half way primered it, carved it up, cut out the headliner, gave away the a/c stuff, ripped off the exhaust system, burned up the clutch and tranny...

I payed $1,100 for the truck (before the tranny died.) and between repairs, and trying to make it look / run even remotely decent, I have roughly $2,700 in it now.
