I am new to the site and to the "ranger game." I recently bought a 1988 super-cab xlt with ALOT of miles on it as a project. I guess my first question would be, what is the rubber mount on the driveshaft and how can I eliminate this obvious weak point in my driveline. Is there a one piece shaft out there anywhere that can be used without too much modification to the frame and cross members? I could also some help picking U-joints that can hold the kind of power I am hoping to produce... I have used brute force on my 1976 torino and they did not last thanks to driveshaft imbalance, Is there an offroad application that is tougher? Any advice is very much appreciated.

Welcome superranger88. Yes, there are ways to eliminate the 2 peice driveshaft and most supercab owners do. Jump over to the tech library. There is a complete write up, all about the 1 peice driveshaft swap.
