Hey guys, today I completely fubar'd my rangers drive shade flange attempting to change U joints.

I'm about to order a driveshaft and have a question on comparability.
My truck is 1996 2.3l 2wd 5speed(m5od) with a 1 pice shaft. Shortened 108 wheelbase.

Will the shaft from a 98+ single/reg cab 2.3l 5 speed rwd ranger work? I searching and keep finding conflicting answers.

Maybe. I think 1998 is when they started putting the bigger flange that the 8.8 uses on the rear axle of the four cylinder Rangers.

Another option is to contact a driveshaft shop and see if they can replace the flange and how much it will cost if they can. If the price is equal or less than what you would pay for the driveshaft in question, that might be the way to go.

That's a good idea to look into. The reason I ask, is because the shaft for m truck is $500+. But the shaft for 98+ ranger is only $200 ish. I have some calls to make!

I have a feeling the '98+ shaft is longer since the cab is longer on a regular cab but I've never measured...

Yeah, none interchangeable. My wheelbase is 108" and the 98+ is 111".

I'm even having issues finding a replacement flange (drive shaft to 7.5 rear end) that is for my specific truck. Gerrr

For the flange I would go to a junkyard, all '90 to like '00 Rangers and Explorers should have the right one for a 13-10 U joint to the flange on the axle... If you were closer I'd give you one as I'm sure I have at least one spare if not 3...
