I recently got the truck lifted, front drive shaft needs work, but i cnt afford to not drive it at the same time, what do you guys thin about taking out the front drive shaft and driving with out it for about a week and a half?

As long as you dont need 4WD, you will be ok...

does the front drive line bolt to the transfer case or slide in. if it slides into the tcase it will leak fluid.

If the truck in his sig is the truck in question, he's ok (2000)RBV's from birth til about 1989 had the slip yoke style front shaft (1350 tcase), this one will leak, the later style that bolts to the tcase (1354) is the one that is okay to remove...

both correct.

Traditionally, yes. But for a RBV 1350 no.

The 1350 output uses an internal spline shaft, the outside is smooth. the opposite of almost every other type of slip yoke out there. It is impossible to seal a spline shaft, or maybe not impossible, but definitely not for a reasonable cost. It's sealed with a traditional o-ring on the outside of the output shaft.

I'm using a 1350 for my 2wd truck that I want low range on for putting around the yard. I can assure you that the fluid will not leak out. Though I did gasket goo a freeze plug over the end since it is still a perfectly good transfercase and there's no reason to gunk up the splines with mud and corrosion.

You'll be fine pulling the front driveshaft for either case.

Note that every other instance I have seen of a slip yoke, removing the driveshaft without fluid being drained or trying to drive without something in it, is a bad idea.

If he has the 1354 witch is the 2000 model, unbolting it will be just fine. Just leave the yoke in there. I might put some super thick grease on the bearing caps, mating surfaces, and threads to keep any water from starting any rust. Just clean it good when you go to re-install.
