drive shaft quiz?

2WD guys... They ARE different.

I have 2 spare 2wd ext cab driveshafts. One is a 98 and the other is from a 2001 edge(I think) but they look the same. Heres a few pics.

im about 3" shy, which is the difference in length of the trans' i measured, so im thinking the manual trans 2wd trucks have a longer front section? heres a picture of the M5OD and the A4LD (these are off from a 2.3 i did on my 1990 but they were different lengths)

how so? (dont being a smartass, genuine question).

Different spline diameter on the slipyoke (which I already knew), and (apparently looking at this) different lengths too (I'm guessing the length difference is in the 2WD tailshaft housing).

yeah, i think thats where the lenght differnece is. on 4wd models the tail shaft is part of the TC so the trans' would be the same length? am i correct in my theory and thats why everyone keeps saying theyre the same? im also thinking that the front section of this drive shaft would be longer for the manual trans because the rear length souldnt be affected by AT vs. MT because the distance from the axle flange to the carrier bearing crossmember should be the same regardless of what trans was used. i had a line on a parts truck with a 2 piece shaft and MT but it got sold the week before i discovered this porblem and the guy is fixing it up to drive it so i cant wheel and deal the shaft off from him.

the spline yoke diameters are different and they are also beveled diffently on the end. heres some pictures just for the back of the mind knowledge.
