86 bronco II auto tranny. Not lifted or anything. I've got the GKN style drive shaft and its on its NOISY way out.

Called the local salvage yard and he tells me he doesn't have a GKN but has a dana for that year.

My question is will the dana be simple replacement? Is is the double cardan type or what.

I've searched on here and read all the ways guys have replaced theirs with explorer front shafts, etc, but I just want to unbolt the old one and bolt a replacement in if I can. This is just my hunting/ work ride, no major offroading, stock motor.

Your suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

as long as they are the same length yes its direct bolt in. Check the trans info in the tech library but i believe that D code on the door is a mitsubishi and its the same length as the A4LD auto, door code T. I've done this and it works fine for me.

The '86-87 Auto driveshaft is the same length as any 1988-90 auto or manual.

No, the "D" code is ambiguous because the 1985-87 Mitsubishi FM145 trans is
the same SHORTER length as the TK-5 trans.

the A4LD (Mid 85-90) automatic is the same OAL as the 1988-90 FM146 and the M5OD-R1 trans

Common problem with the "Tulip" shaft. (CV's give out and it sounds like a pop-fest when under accel).

Parts houses do sell replacement drive shafts for this. I've already replaced ours with one of 'em.
