im doin a 92 explorer 8.8 swop in to my 88 extended cab ranger, it has the 146 fm 5-speed and 1350 t-case, cant i use a drive line from 1990 extended cab ranger, will the flang on my t-case bolt up to the 1990? i want to do the 98 and up shaft swop but i cant find one any were here, if sunk reads this what did you do? thanks to all that gets back to me. mike.....:temper::stirthepot:

With the 8.8, the later SC driveshaft should bolt right into yours, yes.

I checked, and the T-case flange is the same on both types of shafts. Im just using the 1354 transfer case that came that came out of the truck I got the front axle and rear shaft from (90 S-cab 4.0).

thanks guys, can i use my 88 front drive line? or do i need the 90+ front one? or can i use the one from the explorer. thanks

The 1988 is most likely a 1350 which uses a slip joint on the front output. If I am reading correctly your using the case out of a 1990 ranger. It would most likely have a 1354 which uses a fixed yoke output. Will need the driveshaft from the Ranger.

I've heard with 6" of lift you may be able to use the front shaft you have now. The 1350 has a slip-yoke vs the 1354's fixed yoke, so you may need to get it shortened about an inch. I lucked out and got a manual shift 1354 for $50 so Im swapping that in and using the shaft that came with it since its a factory part.

thanks sunk! should i just go ahead and shorten it to be on the safe side? i heard i might not have to but i dont want that shaft to blow a hole in my t-case.

Im not sure... I'd measure the distance between the yokes with the D28 in there, and then the distance from the backside of the beam to the yoke on the D28 vs the D35 and maybe see what kind of movement you could get out of the slip-joint in the shaft.. Maybe some else with experience will chime in.

There are too many vehicles listed up top to make a whole lotta sense to me.

If you are putting in a 35 in place of your 28 you will need to shorten the front shaft unless you plan on lifting it a few inches, and even then I would definatly check the clearances in the driveway before you got out on the trails with it.

i have a 6" suspension lift, and yes im doin the d35/8.8 swop in to my 1988 ranger, sorry if it was hard to read.

could i take a inch off the slip yoke were the splines are, or should i take it out of the shaft tub its self, i know the right way would be to take the inch out of the tub but could i take it out at the splined part.

No, because the part that would bottom out is going to be the shaft itself, not the slip joint.

With that much of a lift you will probably be fine.

With the coil removed, jack the driverside axle up until it's against the bumpstop. If there's still at least ½" of slip-spline travel left, you should be fine.
