Drive by Wire?

I have a 2000 Ranger 4.0 4x4. It was a fleet vehicle. I want to put cruise control on it. I've looked I don't see the wires or plug in the engine compartment that has been described in other threads. So is this a drive by wire setup. Where can I tap in for speed. Or should I use the old magnet trick?

I doubt it's drive-by-wire (that means no throttle cable and no steering shaft). But there are quite a bit of sensor wires in there. On most later RBVs, the speed sensor is on the rear end.

The "magnet trick" works just fine, and if in doubt, use it. You still have a rotating driveshaft, just like in the old no-computer days.

On most newer Fords you are just a steering wheel away from having factory cruise, all the other stuff is there. I am not sure if Ranger's are that way but I would check into before I got a aftermarket kit (I think that is what you are doing??)

Thanks for the help. I 'll liik around some more on the truck.
