OK so I have a buddy selling his old 91 extended cab 2wd 4.0 5 speed ranger for $200. It needs a new trans but that's not a hard to fix on the cheap. So I already have a DD and a trail truck but I have been wanting to build something I could take to local drift and autocross events just to compete and have fun with. Since I'm very comfortable with the ranger platform I figured it would be a pretty easy build.

So here's my thoughts for the build.
Full cage and harness
The DJM 3/4 drop kit
Explorer 8.8 with 4.10s welded locked
Headers and full exhaust (no smog so no cat)
DIY cold air intake.

I realize the locked rear probably isn't the best thing ever for autoX but I'm more interested in running the drift events anyway.

So I guess I'm just looking for any input from people doing the same thanks.

Also I was wondering does anyone make stiffer sway bars that will fit with the drop?

I'd grab the biggest Expo rear sway bar you can find when you get your rear axle. It will give the truck a tendency to oversteer which will only help your drifting. Bronco2s had some nice thick bars too that would work.

Good idea! I can probably get one really cheap to. Any idea which year might be the thickest?
