I completely stripped down a spare 1350 tcase today, I have every part took out and was going to bring the sector shaft and 4x4 output to bring to my buddys to get pressed and welded. And I cant find the 4x4 output, im starting to think its because Im using the 1350 and not the 1354, but i have every part took out and nothing that looks like the output shaft in this pic: (the top one)

is it just a part from a 1354?

The top one in that pic is probably a transmission output shaft from a 4x4 trans. (its different from the 2wd.) Your gonna have a hard time finding that in the transfer case.

lol yeah it never said anything about it being in the trans in the articles i read but when i thought about it more and more, the term output shaft smacked me across the face and i ran out behind the garage into the scrap pile and found a fm145 with that shaft sticking out the back. so i took it in the garage and started tearing into it and ill post up some pics of how far ive gotten tonight

out put shaft is the one there sticking out of the trans right? thats the splined part i need?

Yep.

Though I'd try to find one that has the larger OD on the smooth part like in your initial pic, it should hold up better as it'll have a bigger diameter where you have to press & weld the two pieces together (A4LD shaft maybe?).

yeah, i did notice where the pic from the tech library has a bigger diameter shaft after the splines. but that shouldnt matter as im not using any more past the splines right?

been staring back and forth at my pics and the ones in the tech library for the best part of hte last 2 hours, and drawing up diagrams of parts and pieces of how it all goes together on paper. i am really starting to get the feel of it, pretty confident in it working out. need to get the output shaft and sector shaft out and brought to my buddys shop to get pressed and welded. then i cant put it all back together and fab up the 1/2" plate and be done with it right?

The part you're pressing into your t-case shaft will be the smooth part of the shaft. The bigger that part of it is, the less stress will be around it when you put torque through it, reducing the chance of it failing.

Your smaller one will still work too, though you'd have to be more careful if you're doing any hard 1st-gear launches (NEVER put the crawl box in low with the T-case in 4-hi though, that's a sure recipe for a broken shaft no matter how it's made).

Thanks man, Im gonna use the one I got for now, since Im only running 33s and its just a 2.9, I think it will do pretty good, if not, im not loosing out on anything. these parts are all leftover from previous vehicles so its not costing anything.
Is there anyone else out there though that have done this using a 1350/1350?

It doesnt really matter if its a 13-50/13-50 doubler or 13-54/13-54 or any other combination of the 2. They are about 75% the same internally.

yeah the main difference is in the casting which is larger on the 1354 and would require a taller block off plate, (if using it as your crawlbox).
