Double Carden Joint

I have a 96 4x4 and the front shaft had a double carden joint. I saw the article in the Tech section (I'm changing U-Joints), but I'm having a hard time finding the rubber piece that has the needle bearings that the cv type ball goes into. Does anyone know exactly what it's called and where to get one?

So you are talking about the needle bearing in the ball joint between the two joint of the double carden?

If you cant describe the part to the parts store people just bring it in and show them.

Yes, the cup that the needle bearings go into that hold the ball. I tried explaining it to several places, they seem to get it, but say it isn't serviceable...same with the dealer. They all claim that I need a whole new shaft??

Talk to specialty shops that deal with driveshaft rebuilding. I got mine there and they even helped me to replace it for no charge. Most can be found in the phonebook by looking under driveshaft

You can get that ball socket at any autoparts store. You just need to ask a person who knows what they are talking about. A replaced one a few years back, autozone had to order it. Some dealers stock them, I replaced one on a F-350 last winter; the dealer had it. Sometimes they can be a mother to get out. I made a little rig for my slide hammer and it works well.
