I went out today and the truck door will not shut at all. If I close it; it pops back open illuminating the center dome. If I hold it shut the center lights shuts off. The past few days it popped open a few times while driving over a bump...I thought nothing much. Today cannot shut door enough to drive it at all.

*I tried to clean the latch and it moves with screwdriver but nothing I did works.

*Any Tricks to keep door shut would be awesome. I rather not pull door panel but will if I have too and if that is required for repair.

Thanks.

Take the 1st picture from the passenger side. I think you'll see a difference...

Might be time for some spray lube on the latch pivot points. Or, pull the seatbelt inside so you’re not closing the door in it. Are the hinge pins worn? Will it close if you lift up on it?

Ya, I can see the difference but I cleaned them out and put the latch back to match and still it bounces every time. The door handle also was not fully working; will open and shut door but not pull on the inside door lock thing....

*I got the door apart and got the thing out but can’t remove it from the cable.....trying to figure that out....but think I need a new latch.

*I can’t seem to find a compatible latch or a good video on how this all connects doing it by sight and feel......any direction is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Yeah, there's something wrong in that latch...

To get the linkage off the latch I believe that's a Z bend type bushing, you'd have to pull up on it as shown and just work it out from there, it takes compressing the plastic bushing some.

I think you're going to need a new one, I'm not sure the year range that is the same but probably in the '98-03ish range? There were subtle changes over the years... heck it could be '96 to later, not sure... I have a '94 door on my '97 but I had to use a '94 lock cylinder since it was a different size hole than the '01 door that I got on the thing... the latches were different too...

I found the part # Ford 2L5Z-10219A65-AB Latch. But I cannot find a replacement anywhere. I looked at it again and I learned that the Door Lock Rod Clips seems to have been broken off. Could this cause my issue?

*I got a pack of Door Lock Rod Clips but am having issues finding an example as images for this latch are hard to find with everything attached and I cannot find a diagram for this so I am just winging it...

*When I take out the door latch and try and latch it to the door by itself it latches and comes off. But I cannot get it to shut when installed into the Truck...Is it still bad?

If I could find another latch I would swap them but hard to find exact model at Junk Yard look so much alike...

Anyone has a diagram for the latch rods and clips that might help.

Thanks for your support.

I feel like a pivot point or spring on the latch mechanism is very worn, but without it in my hands I couldn't tell.

Can you activate all of it's functions (latched, half latched, and locked) out of the door? Anything that feels "loose"?

IF it works fine outside the door you could have a bent rod or sticking door handle holding it halfway open.

You could pull the inside door panel on the other side so you can compare the latch and mechanism with the bad one. The door panels are not hard to remove. Remove the screws holding one and lift the panel straight up.

Seeing the good linkage on the other side might enable you to fabricate a replacement for a bad linkage if that's unavailable.

A used latch with the part number you gave is available on eBay.
